Defender Frost Fan
How Does a Wind Machine Work?
Wind Machines use the warm air that rises from the ground at night and keeps it at ground level to minimise or prevent the formation of frost.
Defender wind machine fans are designed to create an 'air jet stream"by the way of the high velocity output of the fan tips.
This air jet stream entrains additional air as it passes through the stagnant mass of the atmosphere. When the wind machine is in operation, as the air jet stream passes through the inversion layer, warm air is drawn down into the jet stream, down into the jet stream, mixed with the air already in the jet stream and is carried down to the vines or trees and to ground level.
As the momentum of the jet stream strikes the cold air at the lower elevation, it breaks up the stratification an drives the cold air out of the area.
This provision of warmer air at ground level will reduce the rate of heat loss from underground 'heat reservoirs' and also eliminate the skin of cold air adhering to leaves, limbs, fruit.
Defender Fan Blade
The new DEFENDER wind machine fan is the result of a 36 month research and development project, the object of which was to arrive at a new fan design that would improve efficiencies to provide substantially improved performance over existing wind machines and at the same time to reduce the sound’ footprint' of the machine by more than 10dba (L10).
- Proven to produce at least 25% more thrust than other wine machine fans on the market
- At full operating rpm the new Defender fan is producing less than 50dba (L10) at 300mt
Manufactured from composite materials including carbon fiber using latest composite technology.
Performance
The DEFENDER is proven to produce at least 25% more thrust than other wind machine fans on the market. This equates to an 8ha coverage per machine, depending on inversion and katabatic drift.
At full operating rpm the DEFENDER fan is producing less than 50dba (L10) at 300m.
